How Long Does Google Ads Take to Work for HVAC? [Easy Guide]
Can Google Ads generate results instantly for HVAC businesses, or how long should you wait before you start getting phone calls?
In this article, I’ll explain what you should expect in the first few weeks and how to speed up results when you make adjustments.
So, let’s get started.
Analyzing a Local Service Business Account
How Long Does Google Ads Take to Work for HVAC?
So guys, to know how long it takes for Google Ads to work for your HVAC company, in this article, I’m going to show you some examples.

This is a local service business, and I cannot disclose the company name, their keywords, and their industry, but I’m going to show you the stats so you can have an idea.
For the last 30 days, as you can see, we’ve generated 140 phone calls and 264 conversions, with a cost per conversion of $29 and a conversion rate of 29%. The number of conversions can include phone calls, form submissions, and phone button clicks. In total, for the last 30 days, it is 264 conversions.
Things to Keep in Mind to Start Getting Phone Calls
I’m going to show you examples from this account with different campaigns, and different campaigns can serve in different locations.
So we’re going to see how long it took for us to generate phone calls once we started our campaigns.
First of all, you need to make sure that your campaigns, keywords, and everything are approved before you start expecting phone calls.
Because once you create your Google Ads account and once you create your campaigns, all of your assets and keywords can be under review.
So their status should change from “under review” to “eligible” or “enabled,” and after that, you can start expecting impressions and traffic.
When to Expect First Phone Calls from Google Ads
Once you’ve started getting some impressions and clicks, you can expect to get some phone calls. The correct type of campaign, once they’re set up, can immediately start getting phone calls.
So let’s say once you have done everything correctly—you have set up your campaigns, ads, and keywords, and your landing page is really good and is designed to generate phone calls to your business—everything is ready.
Once you launch your campaigns and start getting clicks, you can expect to get phone calls from day one, once everything is approved. This is how Google Ads can work.
Example 1: Local Service Business Account Performance
Let me show you some examples.

So this is one campaign, and we started around here (from where my cursor is).

Here, we paused it because our technician stopped working,

and came back here and started working again. As you can see, once we relaunched the campaign, we immediately started getting phone calls.
Budget and Conversions: Early Performance Breakdown

Here is a conversion we’re tracking—first of all, phone calls or phone button clicks.
After that, sometimes we can get form submissions, but our main goal is to generate as many phone calls as possible.

So we launched the campaign around here, the 8th of May. As you can see, we got four clicks and didn’t get any conversions.

Again, we got three clicks,

and after that, two clicks and four clicks.

After about several days, we started getting conversions. Because we had other campaigns, we were not aggressive in this location.
We had other campaigns already running or enabled, and we were not as aggressive in this location as with other campaigns. That’s why we didn’t get conversions, and we may not have given more budget to this campaign.
As you can see, we didn’t immediately get phone calls with this campaign or with this location.
But later, we started to give it more budget.

As you can see, I’ve set it to $250 per day. But of course, it’s not spending $250 per day—it might be spending around $100, maybe sometimes $80 or $70 per day, depending on the search volume for those specific keywords.
How Strong Campaigns Can Deliver Results from Day One
But overall, this is one of the best campaigns we have in this specific location.

So here, as I said, once we turned on this campaign, on the first day we got one click—it might have been only a half-day—and the next day we got another click, and it immediately turned into a conversion, and it started bringing conversions regularly.
That’s how you can expect to generate conversions from a regular campaign if you have created high-quality campaigns and high-quality landing pages.
Example 2: Local Service Business Account Performance
Let’s see another example.

This is another campaign in another location. As you can see, the daily budget is $90.
Again, it might spend much less than that, depending on the keyword search volume. We’ve tried to choose high-quality keywords, and they may not have the highest search volume.

We started the campaign around here—it was around the 5th of May.
As you can see, from the first day, we got two clicks, and it resulted in a conversion. So you can also expect conversions immediately from the first day, and that is proportional to the number of clicks you’re getting.
If you’re getting clicks, and those clicks are high quality, you can easily expect phone calls that same day.
As you can see, from then on, we started getting a consistent number of conversions.
Pre-Launch Optimization Tips to Get Calls Faster
To start getting phone calls as soon as possible, optimization should be key. You can start optimizing before creating your campaigns.
What do I mean by that?
You can start adding your negative keywords before you launch your campaigns.
So let’s say before launching the campaigns, you have a list of negative keywords. Those negative keywords can include your brand terms or other competitor names. You can add those competitor names as negative keywords, and whoever is searching for your competitors on Google may not see your ad, and you won’t waste your budget on those types of users.
You can do that beforehand—before launching your campaign. There are other optimization strategies once you are generating some data.
But before launching your campaigns, there are some similar types of strategies you can apply so you won’t be wasting your ad budget and will show your ads to people who are more qualified to see your ads.
You can also do the same strategies like changing your ad schedule, targeting certain locations, and other optimizations before launching your campaigns to attract the highest possible users and have the highest chance of getting phone calls immediately from day one.
When to Start Optimizing Based on Data
Once you’ve launched your campaign, you need to give it some time to generate some data. You have to start getting clicks.
After that, let’s say you start getting phone calls—after about four to six weeks, with enough conversion data, you can start optimizing your campaigns.
You can know which keywords are performing well, which ad groups or ads might be performing well, or you can even compare campaigns.
You can give more budget to the campaign that is performing well and reduce the budget for the campaign that is doing poorly.
After about 60 to 90 days, you can be sure whether your campaign is doing well. If it’s not doing well, you’re doing something wrong, and you need to change certain things based on the data you have and improve your performance.
When to Expect Results from Google Ads?
But overall, if you have created high-quality campaigns with very high-intent keywords, and your ad copies are really good so they can attract visitors with high click-through rates, and at the same time, you’ve created a high-quality landing page designed to generate phone calls to your business, you can expect to get phone calls in a very short period of time.
Typically, it should be within a couple of days. You should start getting phone calls, and the number should start to get higher and higher.
Otherwise, if you have just created your campaigns and you’re not sure about your landing page and everything is average, after making some optimizations, you can expect to improve your results after about four to six weeks.
But again, if your campaigns are not that high quality, and after you start making optimizations, you can expect to improve your results after four to six weeks if you do the optimizations correctly.
So that’s what you can expect overall if you have started your Google Ads campaigns, and that’s how long it should take for you to see results from Google Ads.
Importance of Tracking Conversions from the Beginning
But of course, you should keep in mind that you need to track your conversions correctly.
If you’re not tracking your conversions, you don’t know whether your campaigns are working or not, or which keywords are performing better than others, and which campaigns should be given more budget compared to others.
Everything can depend on the number of conversions.
If you track the number of conversions correctly, you can improve your performance, see the big picture, and directly impact your business and the ROI you can generate from Google Ads.
So you should make sure that you set up conversion tracking properly so you can start measuring the phone call data from the beginning.
Conclusion
